Do We Have Trust?

Project type

Web Design & Building

Date

July 2024

An interactive questionnaire interwoven with visual and conceptual chapters that explores the fundamental question of how we measure trust.

The project began with extensive research, conducting approximately 40 interviews on trust, listening to personal stories, and reading academic articles to deepen understanding. This was complemented by an experimental street exercise across Israel where I approached strangers asking "Would you trust me to record a brief video with you?" - documenting their reactions and thought processes when faced with this simple yet profound request.

My goal was to create a tool that makes a questionnaire about trust accessible and prompts people to reflect on the subject, exploring how questionnaires that help us understand products in the market could also help us better understand ourselves. Leveraging Gillian Rotter's academic trust scale, I built a website that blends a trust questionnaire with a thought-provoking graphic experience, designing a linear flow with intuitive navigation to build trust in the interface itself.

The design created a neutral environment that encourages honest responses - participants answered each question in a calm space before viewing the related trust experiment, allowing users to discover their authentic perspective before encountering external influences.

This process taught me valuable lessons about the dilemmas designers face when creating questionnaires, the various types that exist, and how to create a format that bridges the didactic and experimental worlds. Given unlimited time, I would have added interactive spaces for users to contribute their own stories and experiences to enrich the visual research.
